I feel about Valentine’s Day sort of how I feel about New Years Eve and Halloween - I have a strange urge to stand on a table and yell “WHAT IF WE ALL JUST CALMED DOWN?” Why do we put so much pressure on these few days out of the year? Why do we make ourselves feel so much less than if we don’t have a special someone on Valentine’s Day? And what’s with all the chocolate? (I’m not into chocolate. Or wine. I know. I have my own vices, but that’s a separate discussion.) (Okay fine, it’s mainly cheese and beer.) (And the snooze button.) (And the TV show Sleepy Hollow.)

What if instead of needing someone else to make us feel loved, we go ahead and make ourselves feel loved? This month, let’s love ourselves.

How are we doing it over here at RPF/SSS? Laurie is focusing on eating more green vegetables. Mary is going on two family vacations and refusing to feel stressed out during them. Steph is going to stretch more and also buy herself a pair of new boots. (A hint from me to you - want to receive the perfect gift? Sometimes you’ve gotta buy it for yourself. No shame.)

Very few things make me feel more loved than lying on my mat at the end of a yoga class - whether I’ve managed to hold crow pose or fallen over in bird of paradise (probably no, definitely yes) - and guess what? I didn’t need anyone else to feel that way. All I needed was to throw on some yoga pants & a tank top (need an outfit idea? This top & these tights are great for yoga, running, the gym…) and get my own self over there.

So this month, we’re doing a giveaway. Just tell us how you’re making yourself feel loved. It doesn't have to be wild. What little (or big!) thing are you doing for yourself this month? Comment on Facebook to enter the contest. And on the last day of the month, we’ll do a random drawing and give the winner a $20 SSS/RPF gift certificate. Because sometimes, having a new outfit can help a whole lot with actually getting yourself out the door & into that place of love.

xoxo Cassidy

I go to yoga and I read lots of books. That, and I try to regularly express gratitude to my people.

I started dating again. It has meant skipping a workout or two here and there, but it is bringing balance back into my life.

I try to spoil myself with massages, manicures and pedicures. I wish I could do it more often, but when I do, it’s so relaxing and it makes me feel loved!

This month I am purchasing a class pass at a yoga studio. I’m a stay at home mom and don’t get much time to myself. Going to yoga is my “me time” and I always feel so refreshed after!

What am I doing to make myself feel loved? I’ve been taking advantage of the unseasonably mild weather we’ve been having here in the Midwest—60s in mid-February in Indiana for days on end? Pretty unheard of. I get outside for a 45-minute walk at lunchtime, and I run 4 or 5 miles after work. Because for me, being outside and active is one of the best gifts I can give myself.
